Statement of Faith

We believe that only the Bible is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of condemnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enable to live a godly life.

Philosophy and Objectives

Spiritual Objectives. The student's spiritual development is the highest priority of Richmond Christian School. We believe God created each individual in His image (Genesis 1:26). Since the fall of Adam, every human being has been born a sinner (Genesis 3, Romans 3:23). The Holy Spirit works in the lives of individuals to reveal their need of a Savior. We seek to use our God-given talents and abilities to point our students to the Savior. It is our chief desire that our students accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, confess Him publicly, and grow daily in their relationship with Him (John 3:7, Romans 10:9). To achieve this end, we require that each teacher and staff member be a dedicated, consecrated Christian in order for our students to have the proper role-models of Christian living.

We seek to help students in their Christian walk by providing Bible classes and chapel services. The Bible classes seek to impart basic Christian doctrine while giving students the tools they need for personal growth and continued Bible study (I Peter 2:2).

The chapel services are designed to be both instructional and inspirational with the intent of helping the students gain a personal appreciation for the corporate praise and worship of God (John 4:24).

In Bible classes and chapel services, the Bible will be taught from a historically Baptist position. For students from other backgrounds, we seek only to help them become serious Bible students and dedicated disciples. We do not apologize for our Baptist heritage, of course, nor will we allow our Bible classes to become a forum of argument for those who may disagree with our views.

Since we begin with the Word of God, the Foundation of Truth established, we proceed by integrating the various subjects and classes into this established foundation (Luke 6:46-49). In a very real way, Bible truth is taught in every class. This is, perhaps, the most important kind of Bible teaching because it helps the students relate daily life to Bible truth. We believe that effective assimilation of Christian truth with English, math, science, history, and other subjects is the key to helping the students develop a Christian world view (Proverbs 9:10).

Academic Objectives. We desire that each student at Richmond Christian School receive the best academic preparation possible in order for them to pursue their life goals successfully. It is our purpose that the academic achievements of our students be always within the context of Christian thought and practice. Our objective is to guide each student's academic development in such a way as to equip him to think independently and yet arrive at conclusions that are consistent with the Bible.

We reject the possibility of having serious scholarship and honest thinking apart from a basic understanding of the Bible. It is our desire to help our students understand history be teaching them about Jesus Christ, who came into human history, and revealed God the Father to us, to guide them in the development of communication skills so that they may effectively share with others about the Creator, and to equip them with mathematical and scientific skills enabling a greater appreciation for the wonders of the universe.

Academic excellence is expected of each student on the assumption held by faculty and staff that each student can learn, can achieve, and can be successful in his school experience. "Excellence" is understood by the faculty and staff as doing one's best (Matthew 25:15-18). Students at Richmond Christian School learn that working hard to reach a worthy goal gives dignity to life and glory to God. Indeed, one's life work that is accomplished according to God's will is a praise to Him (Psalm 139:14, Proverbs 10:4).

Physical Objectives. Recognizing that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit directs us to teach and exemplify a proper respect toward the human body (I Corinthians 6:19). This would include instruction and participation in exercise (I Timothy 4:8), proper diet, and respect for the human body as a creation of God. An interscholastic sports program will provide student athletes with the opportunity to participate competitively. Athletic competition has always played an important part in the lives of students. Since sports have such an influence on students, there is the constant possibility of that influence being negative as well as positive. We must, therefore, constantly strive to do the positive, knowing that our sports program provides a public arena to give testimony to the Lord.

We must carefully maintain the primary emphasis on spiritual and academic rather than athletic achievement. Every student who participates in interscholastic competition at RCS must be academically eligible as outlined in the RCS Athletic Handbook. As well, every student who participates in interscholastic athletic competition at RCS must exhibit behavior indicative of a proper relationship with Christ. Exceptional athletic ability is no substitute for poor testimony or for poor performance in the classroom.

Social Objectives. We are told in the scripture to let our "light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Not only is our relationship with God important, but our relationships with other people are important, too. To this end, we teach our young people the principles of proper relationships, behaviors, and attitudes. Specifically, these include responsible citizenship, respect for others, courtesy, forgiveness, compassion, the value of friendships, and the Biblical ideal of love (I Corinthians 13). We recognize the unique relationship of the family and the church as institutions of God's design (Genesis 2, Acts 2). They will be revered as such. The church and home are institutions ordained of God, which our school specifically seeks to support.

Being a responsible citizen implies that one has the self-discipline to act in a civil manner. Our rules regarding conduct, language, dress, etc., will be enforced while helping students understand that discipline is administered out of love and as a vehicle to develop self-discipline or inward control (Proverbs 19:11, I Timothy 3:16, I Corinthians 9:24). The ultimate goal for the individual is personal maturity in Christ (Hebrews 12:11) and that how this life is lived is an outward expression of faith.

Conclusion. This Biblically based philosophy of Richmond Christian School provides guidance for every aspect of our school's program. Only in following this philosophy will we see success as young people develop hearts that seek God and minds that pursue truth.
