Parent Letter - 10/10/25
Dear Parents and Families of RCS,
Welcome to the end of yet another week – one more week until the end of the quarter and a mere 76 shopping days until Christmas! This week, we wrap up our “God Doesn’t Waste A Battle” series with Joshua and the battle of Jericho. First, let’s recap our big ideas from the past four letters. First, we determined that in our trials, we fight our battles in the Lord’s strength, not our own. We have also seen that 2) we don’t fight those battles alone – that God brings others to our aid in our time of need. It is important to 3) praise God in the midst of the struggle and trust him for the victory, and 4) remember that God will make a way THROUGH your trial, because he wants you to see the victory from the other side.
In Joshua, Chapter 6, we see the Israelites nearing the city of Jericho. The first big challenge in entering the Promised Land. In verse 2, we read “Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men.’” Standing before the city, however, Joshua and the people could only see a wall twelve feet high and six feet thick – wide enough at the top to drive a chariot on it. God’s battle plan for the Israelites was this: March around the city in silence once each day for six days. On the 7th day, they march around it 7 times, with priests blowing their trumpets. After the 7th time, blow one long blast on the trumpets, and the walls will fall. I try to imagine both perspectives – the soldier on the ground just walking around the perimeter of the city, then going home. Meanwhile, the soldier on the wall was watching the army just walk in silence.
Nothing else, just a stroll around the city, then they leave. It shows us that sometimes, in God’s bigger plan, the circumstances in which we find ourselves or the plan he reveals to move forward may not make a lot of sense – to us. Yet, as believers, He expects us to be obedient and trust Him. The miracle wasn’t in the obedience; instead, it was the RESULT of the obedience. We see in the Bible that when the Israelites finished marching on the 7th day and gave a loud shout, the city walls came crashing down. But this is the part of the story we need to take away from this: When the walls fell, they didn’t just crumple into a heap of boulders. They completely collapsed in such a way as to create a ramp into the city. The Israelite soldiers didn’t have to climb a jagged pile of debris. Instead, they walked over what essentially became a ramp to pass over, enter the city, and claim the victory. So, remember this – God will turn the wall that blocks you into a ramp that will allow you to walk over the trial to victory!!
Please be in prayer for students and teachers as we roll quickly to the end of the 1st quarter next Friday. Also, remember that we changed the date of the Parent/Teacher Conference Day to Monday, 3 November, with Staff Professional Development the next day. More information regarding conference sign-ups coming soon!
