My favorite Bible verse is… “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But, take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

HelloI!  I’m Hilary Burgess. I grew up in a small town in Maryland, and my family was active in our church, where I found my true love for the Lord and for serving others in His name. I attended Elon University in  North Carolina, where I received my degree in Human Services. I then worked for some non-profit agencies that were oriented around educating or helping children in different ways. However, a few years after I graduated from Elon, I decided to take my love for children in a different direction. I returned to school and earned my MA in Early Childhood Education in MD at the College of Notre Dame.

This is my second year teaching elementary school at Richmond Christian School. I taught First Grade for two years in Baltimore and Second Grade in Bedford County, VA, and Montgomery County, VA. I spent some time at home with my girls while they were young, and then I taught at a Christian preschool for six years before finding my place here at RCS.

I met my husband, Joey, at Elon.  We have moved quite a bit for his job, but we landed in Midlothian 9 years ago and are still enjoying the area. Our extended family is still in Maryland and the Tidewater area of Virginia. We have two amazing daughters who attend RCS, as well. As a family, we enjoy hiking together and love going to the beach. We attend Swift Creek Presbyterian Church, where I serve as a deacon, my husband is a trustee, and our girls attend youth groups and serve God in various ways.

I am grateful to teach at RCS and look forward to meeting my next class of First Graders in August!
