Parent Letter - 2/14/25

February 14, 2025
By Bill Sharp

Dear Warrior Nation,

Many of us can’t picture a million.  Here are a few visuals:  A million pennies stacked on top of each other would be nearly a mile high.  A million ants would weigh a little over 6 pounds, and a million one-dollar bills would weigh over 2,200 pounds!  This week, we meet King Jehoshaphat’s million-man army.  You would think a commander of a force that large would not fear anything.  But in 2 Chronicles chapter 20, we read, “Some people came and told Jehoshaphat ‘A vast army is coming against you from Edom…; Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.’” (vv. 2-3).  Even though he commanded over a million soldiers, his initial response of fear and alarm tells you just how big this enemy must have been.  After seeking the Lord, the king took the following action steps:  Pray, Go, and Worship.  After fasting and praying, he marched his army toward the enemy by putting the worshipers at the front of the army.  As they marched, they sang, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”  While they sang and praised, something remarkable happened.  In Verse 22-23, we read, “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.  The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to annihilate them.  After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they turned on each other and destroyed each other.”  By the time the men of Judah arrived at the battlefield, all of the enemy was dead.  The only thing left to do was collect the plunder, which took them three days!!  Nobody had to even lift a sword.

So, what does this tell us about our God?  He is Jehovah-Nissi, the Lord Our Banner, or God my Victory.  As Moses proclaimed God to be for His people at the Red Sea, Jehoshaphat and his army saw God move amid their praise.  That, my friend, is His Word for you today:  Praise God in the midst of the battle and trust HIM for the victory!

Remember the next Open House event will be this coming Thursday, 20 February, at 6:30 p.m. in the library. If you know anyone interested in hearing more about RCS and meeting our amazing staff and teachers, have them contact our front office at 804-276-3193.

Open enrollment for next year continues!  There is still time to take advantage of the $150 re-enrollment until the end of February.  The rate goes up at that point, so don’t miss out!  Some grades are already at or near capacity, and we don’t want anyone to miss out.  If you have any questions about the process, please contact the business or front office.

Blessings to you and your family for an awesome weekend!
